Biography

“We help dads like you get out of bad marriages, and work only with men and fathers going through divorce, custody and family law matters in Nutley and Montclair, NJ. We also know how important seeing your children is to you, and that you probably have a fairly complex financial situation. One promise I make to you: I will always tell you the truth, even if it’s a hard truth to hear.” – Brad M. Micklin, Esq.

You may recognize Brad from his many TV appearances discussing legal issues on CNN’s Headline News, Fox News Video, i24 News and Law & Crime Network among other media outlets. Journalists call on him because as one of New Jersey’s leading family law attorneys, mediators, and litigators, he focuses his practice on helping men through one of the most difficult transitions in their life.

Brad is known for his work with men involved in high conflict divorces and battles over child custody with their former spouse. He says that he focuses on men going through a divorce because while men are starting to be awarded alimony and child custody, the attitude of judges is changing too slowly and he wants to shine a light on these new rights.

He doesn’t consider himself a typical family law attorney. Even after his representation of you is concluded, Brad continues to offer his time to teach you about the law and your rights in the divorce. He even hosts a men’s divorce and custody support group, which you may find helpful.

As managing partner of The Micklin Law Group, LLC, he prides himself in taking as much time as you need in your family law dispute to answer your concerns, hopes, fears, and desired outcome at the end of the matter. As a result, he tailors his services to match your overarching goals and budget.

Based in Nutley, Brad leads a team of eight attorneys and legal support staff in helping you. Beyond his extensive courtroom experience, he has taken a number of advanced family law courses, received training in handwriting analysis, and reading both body language and advanced micro expression, the involuntary facial expressions that last a fraction of a second that reveal a witness’s true emotions.

Brad would never call himself an “expert” but his peers in the profession rely on his expertise. For example, he successfully argued the lead case in New Jersey divorce law that defined limited duration alimony and its modification. After serving as a mediator for the Delaware Attorney General’s office, he was certified as a mediator through the Superior Court of New Jersey. Brad received an invitation to serve as a commercial arbitrator from the Union County, New Jersey assignment judge.

A product of Philadelphia, Brad says he always wanted to be a lawyer and that, as a boy, when his buddies talked about becoming baseball players and firemen, he proclaimed that he wanted become an attorney.

An avid guitar player and swimmer, he also lifts weights to keep his body as toned as his mind.
